WHEN THE KEEPERS MEET FOR THE FIRST TIME, THE GATE WILL BE OPENED.

Abbiamo di fronte la nuovissima edizione di questo libro, e non avendo letto la prima versione non so cosa sia esattamente cambiato, ma posso dirvi che si tratta di un bel urban fantasy dai tratti enemies-to-lovers e new adult.

 

La prima cosa che mi ha colpito dalla trama è tra le pagine abbiamo modo di entrare in contatto con la misteriosa Colonia di Roanoke: uno dei primi insediamenti in America del Nord e famosa per la sparizione di massa di quasi tutti i suoi abitanti. Ovviamente l’autrice ci mette del suo per riadattare la storia al suo libro, creando qualcosa di molto intrigante.

 

Abbiamo due protagonisti dalla forte personalità, due discendenti di famiglie che avevano creato una maledizione per tenere al sicuro l’umanità bloccando gli Dei adorati dai Nativi Americani. Sono anche due persone molto particolari, e questo porterà il lettore in direzioni molto diverse, chi li amerà, chi lo odierà e chi entrambe le cose. Nel mio caso posso dire che la storia è strutturata in modo che all’inizio non mi piacessero troppo, ma poi si ha modo di conoscerli meglio, di comprenderli di più, e questo mi ha portato a cambiare idea.

 

La lettura comunque è molto scorrevole, e si ringrazia il linguaggio senza fronzoli, una buona alternanza di vicissitudini, molte scene di azioni e alcune scene un po’ più spicy ma senza risultare volgari. Ho particolarmente apprezzato la scelta di utilizzare la mitologia dei Nativi Americani, come anche di avere personaggi che sanno scatenare reazioni molto forti nel lettore. Forse ho solo due cose da dire: avrei preferito che il libro fosse sia dal punto di vista di Ellie che di Collin, così da sentire i pensieri di entrambi e non solo di uno, e forse anche il plot-twist finale non è poi così sorprendente, ma si fa leggere e mette comunque la curiosità di leggere il secondo.

We have the brand new edition of this book in front of us, and not having read the first version I don't know what exactly has changed, but I can tell you that it is a nice urban fantasy with enemies-to-lovers and new adult vibes.

 

The first thing that struck me from the plot is that between the pages we have the opportunity to come into contact with the mysterious Roanoke Colony: one of the first settlements in North America and famous for the mass disappearance of almost all its inhabitants. Obviously, the author puts a lot of effort into adapting the story to her book, creating something very intriguing.

 

We have two main characters with strong personalities, two descendants of families who had created a curse to keep humanity safe by blocking the Gods worshiped by Native Americans. They are also two very particular people, and this will take the reader in very different directions, who will love them, who will hate them and who will both. In my case I can say that the story is structured in such a way that at the beginning I didn't like them too much, but then you get to know them better, to understand them more, and this led me to change my mind.

 

However, the reading is very smooth, and we thank the no-frills language, a good alternation of vicissitudes, many action scenes and some scenes that are a little more spicy but without being vulgar. I particularly appreciated the choice to use Native American mythology, as well as having characters who can trigger very strong reactions in the reader. Maybe I only have two things to say: I would have preferred the book to be from both Ellie's and Collin's points of view, so I could hear the thoughts of both and not just one, and maybe even the final plot-twist isn't that bad. surprising, but it makes you read and still makes you curious to read the second one.
