Vi piace la fiaba di Biancaneve ma avete voglia di qualcosa di diverso? Bene, perché Poisoned è il suo retelling ma in chiave dark romance e paranormal. Come?
Beh, di certo non vi aspettate una semplice passeggiata nel bosco, ma piuttosto immaginate di scoprire di essere un’omega in un universo dove sono talmente rare da perdere tutti i diritti. Poi immaginate anche che vostro padre, il Re, appena lo scopre vi “vende” a sette mutaforma in cambio di protezione per i suoi territori. Non proprio una favola, no?
Per fortuna, tra un’educazione rigida, ma in svariati settori, e un’indole non proprio docile, Bianca riesce a cogliere il meglio dalla sua situazione. Non è facile, non è pronta a cedere alla sua stessa biologia, ma sa che proteggere il suo popolo è importante e sa anche che imputarsi troppo contro i suoi bisogni non la porterà a nulla. Quindi, con testa alta affronta la sua biologia e cerca di ascoltare I Sette, senza vederli necessariamente come nemici, ma imparando piano piano a conoscerli.
Allo stesso tempo, i Sette imparano a conoscere questa ragazza che è molto diversa da quello che avrebbero mai potuto aspettarsi. Uniti da un contratto ma legati da qualcosa di più profondo, ancor di più quando una misteriosa presenza inizia a minacciare il delicato equilibrio che si sono costruiti.
Questa è una storia che ci insegna che quando il mondo ci mette degli paletti sulla nostra strada non dobbiamo scoraggiarci, ma anzi, dobbiamo lottare e andare avanti. Se non è possibile, allora bisogna trarne il meglio, perché non sempre tutto viene per nuocere e quello che può sembrare un ostacolo, potrebbe riversarsi una cosa decisamente positiva.
Insomma, un libro che scorre bene ed intrattiene, senza dimenticare di dare qualche spunto di riflessione importante. Inoltre, tutti i riferimenti alla fiaba originale ci sono, inclusi la strega cattiva e la mela.
Un lieto fine fa sempre piacere, specialmente quando coinvolge tutti i personaggi che impariamo ad amare pagina dopo pagina. L’unico aspetto che potrei sottolineare è la mancanza di una spiegazione più approfondita qua e là, ma questo non compromette la godibilità della lettura.

Do you love the fairy tale of Snow White but want something different? Good, because Poisoned is its retelling, but with a dark romance and paranormal twist. How?
Well, you certainly aren't expecting a simple walk in the woods; rather, imagine discovering you're an omega in a universe where they're so rare they lose all rights. Then imagine that your father, the King, as soon as he finds out, "sells" you to seven shapeshifters in exchange for protection of his territories. Not exactly a fairy tale, right?
Fortunately, between a strict upbringing—but in various areas—and a less than docile nature, Bianca manages to make the best of her situation. It's not easy; she's not ready to give in to her own biology, but she knows that protecting her people is important, and she also knows that overly blaming her own needs won't get her anywhere. So, with her head held high, she faces her biology and tries to listen to the Seven, without necessarily seeing them as enemies, but slowly getting to know them.
At the same time, the Seven get to know this girl, who is very different from what they could have ever expected. United by a contract, but bound by something deeper, even more so when a mysterious presence begins to threaten the delicate balance they've built.
This is a story that teaches us that when the world puts obstacles in our path, we must not be discouraged, but rather, fight and move forward. If that's not possible, then we must make the best of it, because not everything is bad, and what may seem like an obstacle could turn out to be a decidedly positive thing.
In short, a book that flows well and entertains, without forgetting to provide some important food for thought. Furthermore, all the references to the original fairy tale are there, including the wicked witch and the apple.
A happy ending is always nice, especially when it involves all the characters we learn to love page after page. The only thing I could point out is the lack of a more in-depth explanation here and there, but this doesn't detract from the enjoyment of the read.
